Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about tutoring on RareJob
Slot Management & Session Delivery
What is the tutoring schedule?
RareJob’s platform operating hours are from 5:00 AM to 11:55 PM (PH) daily. As an independent tutor, you have full control to choose and set your own schedule within these hours.
To ensure optimal student booking matches, newly activated tutor profiles default to standard booking availability slots:
- Mondays to Fridays: 5:00 AM to 7:55 AM (PH) and 5:00 PM to 11:55 PM (PH)
- Saturdays and Sundays: 5:00 AM to 11:55 PM (PH)
Tutors can automatically unlock the additional weekday daytime availability slots (8:00 AM to 4:55 PM PH) once their profile meets the standard platform quality and performance baseline metrics.
Are lesson materials and modules provided?
Yes. RareJob grants tutors access to a comprehensive library of curriculum resources based on the CEFR-J framework (a 10-level international standard for English proficiency). These structured modules are provided as a convenient asset to help you in delivering high-value sessions.
As an independent professional, you retain the tactical flexibility to adapt your delivery style to align with your student’s stated learning goals. While students will frequently select and request a specific module or material from the library for their session, you are entirely free to integrate your own professional methodology and select supplementary learning resources to help them achieve their desired proficiency targets.
How do students book my sessions?
The RareJob platform operates on a student-choice marketplace model. Students browse the platform, view the active booking slots you choose to open, and select their preferred tutor based on your public tutor profile, introduction, and availability.
To maximize your student bookings, we recommend keeping your profile detailed and opening slots during peak student demand hours.
Who will my clientele be?
The students who utilize the RareJob platform are predominantly Japanese adults or individuals residing in Japan. While their age groups vary, the vast majority are working professionals, corporate executives, and adult learners who are using the platform to improve their conversational English for business or personal growth.
How do I facilitate a session?
RareJob sessions are conducted via our proprietary web-based communication platform, which you will set up and explore during your Readiness Phase.
As an independent professional, you have the autonomy to manage your own session delivery. To help you maximize your success and maintain high platform ratings, here is the standard recommended platform workflow:
Before the Session
- Set Availability: Log in to your tutor account to open booking slots according to your preferred schedule.
- Technical Check: We recommend logging in 30 minutes prior to your first booked slot to ensure a stable internet connection, check audio/video settings, and confirm your platform availability.
- Review Student Preferences: Check your dashboard for the student’s lesson requests and learning preferences, which become accessible once a booking is confirmed.
During the Session
- Punctual Commencement: Connect with your student on time to deliver your professional service.
- Utilize Materials: You may access the digital curriculum resources or the optional Tutor Guide associated with the student’s selected material to serve as a convenient structural reference during your session.
- Share Insights: Use the platform’s feedback system to provide constructive insights, helping your student track their language progression.
- Wrap Up: Conclude the session professionally and punctually within the standard slot timeframe.
After the Session
- Submit Session Notes: Complete the digital feedback form on your dashboard to provide the student with their post-session summary and learning milestones.
How long is a standard session?
Each standard session block on the platform runs for 25 minutes.
Is there a minimum number of hours required to use the platform?
No. You have complete, 100% control over your schedule. There are absolutely no minimum hour requirements, mandatory shifts, weekly quotas, or fixed schedules imposed on independent providers. You have full discretion to log into your dashboard and open booking slots whenever it suits your personal or professional routine. If you need to take weeks or months off to focus on other projects, you are entirely free to do so without penalty.
To keep your profile operational, your account must simply record at least one (1) completed booking every six (6) months to maintain an Active status on the platform network.

Profile Registration & Onboarding
Do I need prior instructional or ESL experience to qualify?
No. While previous experience in language facilitation, coaching, or ESL tutoring is considered an asset, it is not a requirement to register and qualify for a platform profile.
Do I need a Tax Identification Number (TIN) to onboard?
You may complete your initial profile registration and the Qualification Phase without a Tax Identification Number (TIN). However, as an independent contractor, you must secure and provide a valid TIN before your profile can be activated to receive tutor service fee disbursements.
How do I register and qualify for a tutor profile?
RareJob’s onboarding process is simple, streamlined, and can be completed entirely online! Here is an overview of how to get your tutor profile activated:
Step 1: Profile Registration
- Create Your Account: On the homepage, click “Get Started” or “Register Now.”
- Complete the Profile Form: Fill out the initial registration details and follow the prompts to verify your email address.
Step 2: The Qualification Phase
- English Proficiency Evaluation: Complete our standard online communication check, which measures core language skills across conversation, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension.
- Technical and Communication Assessment Call: Schedule a brief live session with a Platform Administrator. During this call, we will verify your spoken English proficiency and run a diagnostic check on your hardware, audio/video quality, and internet speed benchmarks.
Step 3: The Readiness Phase
- Once your profile clears the Qualification Phase, you will be granted access to our platform resource library. You will run through a quick system walkthrough to familiarize yourself with the digital dashboard, calendar slot management, and student booking system.
Step 4: Account Activation
- After confirming your technical readiness and submitting your payout bank details, your profile will be activated, allowing you to open slots and begin receiving student bookings!
Can I register even if I don’t have a college degree?
Yes. A formal college degree is not a prerequisite to use the platform. Anyone who is at least 18 years old, resides in the Philippines, and meets our standard technical and English language communication benchmarks is welcome to register and complete the qualification process.
Do I need to speak Japanese?
No, knowing Japanese (Nihongo) is not a requirement. While understanding basic Japanese can sometimes be helpful when facilitating sessions for beginner learners, all platform materials and interactions are designed to be conducted entirely in English.
Do I need to visit an office to onboard?
No, physical appearance is not required. The entire onboarding process—including the registration, communication and technical checks, and requirement submissions—is conducted entirely online for your convenience.
How long does the onboarding process take?
The duration depends entirely on your own pace. Because the platform gives you full flexibility, the timeline is determined by how quickly you complete each stage, from the initial Qualification Phase checks to submitting your account disbursement requirements.
Is RareJob a legitimate platform?
Yes, RareJob is a highly established and trusted global brand. Founded in 2007, we are a premier online English language platform backed by our parent company, Gakken Holdings Co., Ltd., a major publicly traded educational conglomerate in Japan.
Over nearly two decades, we have built a massive, reliable digital ecosystem, supporting an active network of thousands of independent tutors across the Philippines who provide high-quality language facilitation to learners worldwide.
Can I register if I am currently located outside the Philippines?
No, all registering tutors must currently reside within the Philippines. Because the platform’s independent partnership model operates strictly within Philippine regulatory and tax frameworks—including local partner banking infrastructure (PNB/BPI) and Philippine Tax Identification Number (TIN) verification—we cannot support profile activations for individuals located outside the country.
Can I register if I am a foreign national living in the Philippines?
Yes, provided that your current visa and residency status legally permit you to engage in independent professional services or freelance trade within the Philippines. Additionally, you must be able to secure a valid Philippine Tax Identification Number (TIN) under your current status and open a partner account with BPI or PNB for service fee disbursements.
I have an inactive RareJob provider profile. How can I reactivate my account?
Reconnecting your service profile to the network is quick and simple! You do not need to undergo a new registration from scratch. To reactivate your platform account:
- Log In: Access your secure tutor dashboard using your previously registered email and credentials.
- Profile Refresh: Update your basic contact information and account disbursement details if any of your business information has changed.
- Technical Baseline Verification: Complete a quick, automated diagnostic check on your workstation to ensure your current operating system, hardware, and internet benchmarks meet our updated platform technical specifications.
Once your system check is confirmed, your profile status will automatically update to Active, and you can immediately begin opening booking slots to connect with students.
Do you have corporate, office-based job opportunities?
Yes. RareJob Philippines, Inc. maintains a dedicated corporate operations team to manage business support, technology, and platform administration. These traditional, office-based employment positions are entirely separate from our independent online tutor network.
If you are looking for full-time corporate career tracks or office-based employment roles, please visit our separate corporate careers portal at rarejob.ph or reach out directly to our Human Resources Department at human.resource@rarejob.ph.
Can I open a platform profile if I am currently registered with another online ESL service?
To prevent conflicts of interest and protect our proprietary platform curriculum and assets, RareJob profile registration is currently limited to providers who do not hold active engagements on other online ESL platforms.
If I recently closed my account with another online ESL platform, how do I register on RareJob?
To verify that there are no active platform conflicts of interest, please provide a copy or screenshot of your account deactivation confirmation, profile closure status, or contract clearance document from your previous platform during profile setup.
Does registering on the platform mean I am an employee of RareJob?
No. Registering your profile establishes a Business-to-Business (B2B) independent contractor partnership. You are registering as a self-employed freelance professional, not an employee. This means you maintain full autonomy over how, when, and where you provide your services, and you are responsible for your own tools, equipment, and personal tax compliances.
Who can I contact for questions regarding profile registration and onboarding?
If you have any questions or need assistance while setting up your tutor profile, you can reach out to our Platform Support Team through the following official channels:
- Email Support: tutor.registration@rarejob.com.ph (Onboarding Support Helpdesk)
- Viber / Mobile: 0928-559-1863

Service Fee Disbursements & Taxes
How are tutor service fee disbursements calculated?
Your total service fee disbursement is calculated on a per-session output basis. The amount is determined by multiplying the exact number of successfully conducted and completed student bookings within a billing cycle by your established base service rate per slot.
If your profile qualifies for any active platform tier adjustments or promotional performance incentives, these service fee add-ons will be automatically calculated and included in your total monthly disbursement invoice.
How and when are tutor service fees disbursed?
To receive your service fee disbursements, you must link your platform profile to an active account with either BPI (Bank of the Philippine Islands) or PNB (Philippine National Bank). If you do not have an existing account with either institution, RareJob can issue a corporate partner certification to help you establish your bank account as an independent platform provider.
Service fee disbursements are processed and transferred on the 10th day of each calendar month for the previous billing cycle. If the 10th falls on a weekend or an official Philippine banking holiday, disbursements are processed either on the immediately preceding banking day or the first available business day following the holiday.
Can I use my existing BPI or PNB bank account instead?
Yes, you may use an existing BPI or PNB account. However, to enjoy zero transfer fees, please coordinate with your branch to tag it for corporate disbursements.
Are tutor service fee disbursements subject to Philippine tax?
Yes. Because you operate as an independent contractor, your service fee disbursements are subject to the Creditable Expanded Withholding Tax rules mandated by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
By default, the platform is legally obligated to withhold a 10% withholding tax from your monthly service fee invoices, which is remitted directly to the BIR on your behalf.
💡 Lower Tax Rate Exception: Under the TRAIN Law, you may easily qualify for a lower 5% withholding tax rate. To receive this reduced rate, you simply need to submit a notarized BIR Sworn Declaration confirming that your gross annual freelance earnings across all sources do not exceed ₱3,000,000. Step-by-step instructions and templates for this lower tax status will be made available to you during the Readiness and Activation Phase.
Will RareJob file my income tax returns on my behalf?
No. Because you are an independent contractor and not a corporate employee, you are personally responsible for managing, filing, and settling your own income tax returns (ITR) with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
RareJob’s regulatory role is strictly limited to remitting the tax withheld from your service invoices and providing you with the necessary documentation to credit those payments.
