Requirements & Qualifications
Skills & Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Has basic computer literacy (audio/video conferencing apps, email, website navigation)
- Is highly proficient in English
- Has patience and a passion for teaching
- Must be currently residing in the Philippines
- Can provide a Philippine Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- Must not simultaneously be engaged with another online ESL service provider
Tutoring Essentials
Equipment
- Laptop or desktop computer
Tutors are required to conduct lessons using a laptop or desktop computer. Smartphones or tablets should not be used as they are unsuitable in ensuring our set quality for lessons.- Operating System (OS): Your laptop's or desktop's OS and hardware drivers must
always be up to date. Below are the minimum requirements that your device should
meet:
- OS and version: Windows 10/ MacOS X 10.14 or higher
- Processor: Dual Core CPU or higher
- RAM: 4GB (32-bit or 64-bit)
- Antivirus Software: An antivirus software must be installed on your computer's
system. A pre-installed antivirus is acceptable and no longer needs to be
replaced. If you have yet to install an antivirus, we recommend the following
based on OS type:
- Windows:
- Windows Defender (usually pre-installed)
- Avira Free Security
- Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition
- Kaspersky Security Cloud Free
- Avast Free Antivirus
- Sophos Home Free
- MacOS:
- Linux:

- Operating System (OS): Your laptop's or desktop's OS and hardware drivers must
always be up to date. Below are the minimum requirements that your device should
meet:
- Stable Internet connection (preferably wired)
- Recommended Download/Upload Speed: 15 Mbps
- Minimum Download/Upload Speed: 3 Mbps
- Ping: Must be less than 100 ms
- Web browser (latest version of Google Chrome and/or Mozilla Firefox)
- Webcam, Headset, and Microphone
Recommended headset features:
- Noise-cancelling microphone
- Digital Signal Processing to remove static noise and echo
- In-line controls (e.g. volume controls, mute button, call buttons, etc.)
Environment
- Good Audio Quality (free from unnecessary background noise)
- Stable Video Quality & Background
- Sufficient lighting
- Free from clutter and passing individuals
- Plain or neutral background
- Attire (presentable and decent)
- Comfortable smart casual clothes – highly encouraged
- Formal/business wear – allowed but not required
The Application Process
RareJob’s application process is simple and convenient. Everything is done online so there is no need to visit our office at any point of your application. You just need to accomplish these easy steps:
Screening
Pass the online English Proficiency Test and the interview. These aim to measure your communication and teaching skills.
Onboarding
Undergo the New Tutor Onboarding Program to help you prepare for your lessons. Complete your Tutor Profile, submit all the requirements, then begin teaching!
The Teaching Process
Before the Lesson
Plot your schedule to be booked by a student, then review your student’s profile and lesson request.
During the Lesson
Conduct the lesson with your student by carefully following the SOPs and RareJob materials for a smooth lesson experience.
After the Lesson
Provide feedback on the student's progress for their own and for other tutors' reference.
